A demanding trek that begins in the Cocora Valley, entering Los Nevados National Natural Park through Salento, Quindío. It will be a 60 km trek of pure challenge through the Central Andes of Colombia, traversing páramo landscapes, mountain farms, lagoons, and the imposing view of the Paramillo del Quindío. We will experience a high-altitude camp at over 4,300 meters, where our bodies and endurance will be pushed to the limit, before reaching the summit of Nevado del Tolima and contemplating the immensity of the park.

Itinerary / Daily Schedule

Day 1. 5:00 AM

The meeting will be in the municipality of Salento at 5:00 am for breakfast, afterwards we will travel to the Cocora Valley, followed by we will begin our hike through Andean forest and páramo ecosystem to reach the La Playa farm. Cocora Valley – La Playa farm (20 km – 9 hrs. approx.)

Day 2

On the second day we will have an early breakfast, then we will set off on our acclimatization and approach hike to the camp located at approximately 4,300 meters altitude. There we will have the technical equipment briefing in the afternoon, then we will have an early dinner and afterwards rest since our next day will begin at dawn. La Playa farm – hike to the high-altitude camp (6 km – approx. 3 hrs.)

Day 3. 1:30 AM

We will get up at 1:30 am, have a hot drink with a snack and begin our hike towards the summit attempt of Nevado del Tolima. After reaching the summit, we will return to camp for an alpine breakfast, set up our tents and organize our backpacks to continue to the farm. There we will have lunch and rest for the rest of the afternoon. It will be a very demanding day. Attempt to summit Nevado del Tolima – La Playa farm (14 km – approx. 12 hrs.)

Day 4.

We will have breakfast very early, pack our backpacks and begin the descent towards Salento where a delicious lunch will be waiting for us, thus ending our fourth day of adventure through the mountains of Los Nevados Park. La Playa farm – Cocora Valley (20 km – 8 hrs. approx.)

Porters on days 2 and 3, from the farm to base camp. They will carry technical equipment, camp supplies, kitchen equipment, food, and traveler gear, with a maximum of 4 kilos per person. On the descent, each person may send the same 4 kilos as porters. If you wish to increase your weight allowance on any of the legs, this fee must be arranged directly with the porters.

Hat and two pairs of gloves, one thermal and one waterproof.
Sunglasses with UV protection, lip balm, sunscreen, and a hat. A layered clothing system specifically designed for the summit, from head to toe:
– Base layer: breathable (quick-drying)
– Mid layer: warm (thermal or fleece)
– Outer layer: waterproof (rain jacket and pants). A thermal base layer for sleeping.

Trekking or mountaineering boots specifically for the summit and wading boots or other type of boots for the trekking days (two pairs of boots are needed). It is recommended to wear boots one size larger than your normal shoe size for improved comfort with an insole and two pairs of socks. Sandals or lightweight shoes for resting.
Two complete changes of clothes that can be alternated for the trekking days, preferably quick-drying pants and breathable sweatshirts, extra underwear, and socks.
Basic toiletries, a lightweight microfiber towel, and personal medication if required.
Headlamp, backpack (minimum 40 liters), water bottle (not single-use plastic) or hydration pack (minimum 2 liters), and sandals for relaxing.
The activity is not permitted for people with heart conditions, respiratory illnesses, advanced obesity, high blood pressure, or pregnant women.
Do sports regularly and, if possible, have a minimum of experience in hiking above 3000 meters altitude or have 60 days of prior preparation.
Provide true and reliable information when filling out reservation forms and medical forms.
It is recommended to attend the meeting the day before at the agreed meeting point to clarify any doubts.
Bring all the basic items required for the activity plus personal identification, otherwise this could cause problems during the expedition.
