Trekking Salento to the summit of Paramillo del Quindío

The Paramillo del Quindío, formerly known as Nevado del Quindío, is a low-activity volcano located in the beautiful central mountain range of the Colombian Andes.

The Paramillo del Quindío, formerly known as Nevado del Quindío, is a low-activity volcano located in the beautiful central mountain range of the Colombian Andes, specifically within Los Nevados National Natural Park. Its unique landscape offers an imposing topography shaped by volcanic activity and glacial melt centuries ago. To visit this area, you will have to traverse forested, rugged, humid, and sandy terrain at altitudes above 4,000 meters above sea level.

Itinerary / Daily Schedule

Day 1. 7:00 AM

We will meet in Salento at 7:00 am for breakfast, then we will travel to the Cocora Valley by vehicle, and begin our hike along the trail through the cloud forest, which will take us to the La Argentina farm. Cocora Valley – La Argentina farm (10 km – 6 hrs. approx.)

Day 2.

We’ll have breakfast very early and then head towards the moorlands to hike up to the Paramillo del Quindío peak. After spending some time at the summit, we’ll go to La Primavera farm. La Argentina farm – Paramillo del Quindío – La Primavera farm (19 km – approx. 10 hrs.)

Day 3.

We’ll have breakfast very early, pack our backpacks, and begin the descent to Salento, where a delicious lunch will be waiting to conclude our expedition. La Primavera farm – Cocora Valley (19 km – approx. 8 hrs.)
