Trekking Potosí – Paramillo del Quindío summit – Salento

A challenging trek that begins in the Potosí sector, entering Los Nevados National Natural Park through the municipality of Villamaría, Caldas. Along the way, we’ll see the imposing Condor Valley, the immense Otún Lagoon, and enjoy sweeping views of the protected area. We’ll then hike towards the beautiful Paramillo del Quindío, known as Colombia’s Rainbow Mountain. We’ll have the opportunity to cross the departments of Caldas, Risaralda, and Quindío, where on the final day, we’ll descend along the Cárdenas River basin within the municipality of Salento.

Itinerary / Daily Schedule

Day 1. 4:00 AM

The meeting will be at 4:00 am in Pereira, we will travel to the Potosí sector, there we will have breakfast, afterwards we will begin our hike through the páramo ecosystem and high Andean forest that will take us to the Berlín farm. Potosí – Berlin farm (20 km – approx. 8 hrs.)

Day 2.

We will have breakfast very early, then we will depart for Paramillo del Quindío, afterwards we will travel to the La Argentina farm where we will have our dinner, a hot drink and we will get ready to rest. Berlin farm – Paramillo del Quindío – La Argentina farm (19 km – approx. 11 hrs.)

Day 3.

We will have breakfast very early, pack our backpacks and begin the descent to Salento where we will have a delicious lunch. La Argentina farm – Cocora Valley (10 km – 6 hrs. approx.)

Hat and two pairs of gloves, one thermal and one waterproof.
Sunglasses with UV protection, lip balm, sunscreen, and a hat. A layered clothing system specifically designed for the summit, from head to toe:
– Base layer: breathable (quick-drying)
– Mid layer: warm (thermal or fleece)
– Outer layer: waterproof (rain jacket and pants).
A thermal base layer for sleeping.
Trekking boots or boots with good grip that will be exposed to variable weather conditions and mixed terrain, or swamp boots (it is recommended to make one size larger than normal footwear to improve comfort with an insole and double socks), sandals or lightweight shoes for rest.
A complete change of clothes, preferably quick-drying trousers and breathable sweatshirts, extra underwear and socks.
Basic toiletries, a lightweight microfiber towel, and personal medication if required.
Headlamp, backpack minimum 35/40 liters, water bottle that is not single-use plastic or camelback minimum 2 liters.
The activity is not permitted for people with heart conditions, respiratory illnesses, advanced obesity, high blood pressure, or pregnant women.
Do sports regularly and, if possible, have a minimum of experience in hiking above 3000 meters altitude or have 60 days of prior preparation.
Provide true and reliable information when filling out reservation forms and medical forms.
It is recommended to attend the meeting the day before at the agreed meeting point to clarify any doubts.
Bring all the basic items required for the activity plus personal identification, otherwise this could cause problems during the expedition.
